titleOfInvention | Production of 5-halo-3-propionylsalicylic acid higher alkyl ester |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound advantageously by Friedel-Craft reaction of a 5-halosalicylic acid alkyl ester having a specific carbon number in the alkyl group with a propionyl halide, followed by recrystallization of the crude product from a specific alcohol. n CONSTITUTION: (A) an alkyl 5-halosalicylate and (B) a propionyl halide are subjected to Friedel-Craft reaction and (c) the crude product containing higher alkyl 5-halo-3-propionylsalicylate is recrystallized from a lower alkyl alcohol of 2 or more carbon atoms to give the subject purified product which is used as an intermediate of remedy for nervous pollakiuria, chronic prostatitis. At this time, the carbon number of the alkyl group in the ester is increased to 6W12 to increase the solubility of the unreacting starting material A in the solvent (D), and simultaneously the expensive starting material A is recovered efficiently. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio |
