titleOfInvention Fuel element and fuel assembly
abstract PURPOSE: To adjust the arrangement and concentration of burnable poison freely and to flatten an output distribution by arranging materials which have no nuclear fuel materials internally and contain the burnable poison in a disk shape between laminated fuel pellets. n CONSTITUTION: The fuel element is formed by charging fuel pellets 1 consisting of only discoid fuel materials in a coated tube 2 hermetically. The burnable poison containing disk 5 which contains no fuel is arranged between the pellets 1; and the pellets 1 are sintered pellets of uranium oxide, etc., and the disk 5 uses boron carbide or boron 10 as the burnable poison. Further, the disk 5 is slightly larger in diameter than the pellets 1 and its radial center part is slightly thin. The fuel assembly where the burnable poison containing disk is arranged enables the fuel element which contains the disk 5 to be arranged at the entire outermost periphery adjacent to a control rod or partially at the outermost periphery which does not adjoin, and also flattens the output distribution of the fuel assembly in combination with the fuel element which contains no burnable poison. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
