abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain in an industrially advantageous way the subject compound to be used as e.g. an intermediate for angiotensinase inhibitors by treating a specific racemic 2RS ester with a bacteria lipase enzyme in an aqueous medium while keeping the pH of the medium at a specified level so as to decompose only the 2S-form. n CONSTITUTION: A racemic 2RS ester of formula I (R 1 is an aryl; R 2 is an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl; (n) is an integer of 0 or 1-8) (e.g. racemic 2RS-2-hydroxy-4- phenylbutyric acid) is treated with a bacteria lipase enzyme in an aqueous medium while keeping the pH of the medium at 5-9 to selectively convert the ester into the corresponding 2R ester and 2S carboxylic acid followed by recovering the 2R ester of formula II and the 2S carboxylic acid of formula III from the medium. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO |
