NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R 1 is H, lower alkyl, hydroxyl lower alkyl or phenyl; R 2 is H or OH-protecting group). n EXAMPLE: 5-Ethynyl-1-β-D-ribofuranosylimidazole-4-carboxamide. n USE: Antineoplastic agent. n PREPARATION: A compound expressed by formula II is reacted with an ethynyl tin compound to provide a compound represented by formula III (X is I or Br; Y is silyl; R 21 is OH-protecting group).
