abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a plant growth regulator having remarkably excellent action to suppress the generation of ethylene, by using one or more kinds of indazole derivatives including novel compounds, e.g., 1H-indazole-3-carboxylic acid, as active components. n CONSTITUTION: The objective plant growth regulator contains as active components, one or more kinds of indazole derivatives (some of which are novel compounds) expressed by formula I [X is halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, nitro or amino; n is 0, 1 or 2; Y is -COOR (R is alkyl or phenoxyalkyl which may be substituted with OH) or group of formula II (R 1 and R 2 are lower alkyl); Z is H, lower alkyl, benzyl or lower alkanoyl]. The compound of formula I has remarkable effect to suppress the generation of ethylene and is a practically excellent plant growth regulator.
