abstract PURPOSE:To heighten water-absorptivity of a coating, by applying an aqueous soln. contg. a carboxylate group-contg. copolymer, an epoxy-contg. polymerizable unsaturated compound, and a radical polymn. initiator on a substrate and heat- drying the resulting coating. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous soln. contg. a carboxylate group-contg. copolymer, an epoxy-contg. polymerizable unsaturated compound, and a radical polymn. initiator is prepd. After the soln. is applied on a substrate, the coating is heated and dryed to form a water-absorptive coating. Preferably, in the aqueous soln. preparation, the radical polymn. initiator is added after the carboxylate group- contg. copolymer and the epoxy group are reacted previously by heating. Starch- acrylonitrile grated copolymers, etc. are among the carboxylate group-contg. copolymer and glycidyl acrylates, etc. are among the epoxy-contg. polymerizable unsaturated compound.
