titleOfInvention Production of transparent resin for optical material
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title resin improved in transparency, by feeding an anhydrous monomer freed from oxygen and peroxides to a vessel made of a specified multilayer structure film and bulk-polymerizing the monomer in a sealed state. n CONSTITUTION: Oxygen is removed from a monomer (e.g., methyl methacrylate) by blowing an inert gas thereinto, and peroxides contained in it are decomposed by the addition of a reducing agent (e.g., N-phenyl-N'-isopropyl-p-phenylene diamine) thereto to obtain a monomer of a dissolved oxygen ≤100ppm and a peroxide content ≤2×10 -4 mol./l. This monomer is fed to a vessel made of an at least bilayer structure film composed of a layer comprising a polymer film (e.g., PVA) of a coefficient of permeability to oxygen ≤1.0×10 -10 cm 2 (STP) cm/cm 2 .sec.cm.Hg and another layer comprising a polymer film (e.g., PE) of a water absorptivity as specified in ASTM D 570 ≤1%, the thickness of each layer being at least 1μm, while oxygen and water vapor are prevented from entering the space between the layers. After the vessel is sealed, the monomer is bulk-polymerized. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
