titleOfInvention | Production of ultrafine particles as raw material of silicon carbide sintered form |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain composite ultrafine particles of SiC nature with B or B 4 C ultrafine particles as the sintering aid homogeneously dispersed in SiC ultrafine particles, by simultaneously heating a SiC fine particle raw material and a raw gas for producing B or B 4 C through a hot plasma to make a reaction followed by quenching. n CONSTITUTION: Silicon carbide fine particles with an average size of ≤80μm is heated, through a hot plasma containing both argon and hydrogen atoms and vaporized, concurrently with this, a raw gas comprising both boron and carbon sources is also heated through said plasma to make a reaction with the former followed by quenching, thus obtaining the objective ultrafine particles. When B is to be added, as the sintering aid in the form of ultrafine particles, to SiC, BCl 3 or B 2 H 6 is used as the raw gas, whereas, when B 4 C is to be added to SiC, BCl 3 , B 2 H 6 or the like and CH 4 , CCl 4 or the like are used as the raw gas. The amount of the B or B 4 C in the final composite ultrafine particles is pref. such as to be 0.01-1.1wt.% on a B basis. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio |
