PURPOSE: To stabilize aldehydes by adding triethanolamines to 2-12C aliphatic aldehydes and distilling it to inhibit its polymerization and self-condensation, moreover without containing foreign matters. n CONSTITUTION: Triethanolamine of, preferably 5-10000 weight ppm, especially 10-500 ppm, is added to aliphatic aldehyde having 2-12 carbon atoms, especially 2-8 carbon atoms per molecule (e.g. propanal, n-butanal or the like) and the mixture is distilled to stabilize aldehyde against polymerization and self- condensation. Although the distillation is conducted at an ordinary pressure, it may be also done under a high pressure. Especially, in case of a higher aldehyde such as nonylaldehyde, decylaldehyde or the like, it can be carried out under a reduced pressure. The aldehydes obtained by this method have a superior storage-stability. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO |
