titleOfInvention | Production of high-molecular weight flame-retardant |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain a high-MW flame retardant which is linear, lowly colored and sufficiently heat-stable, by reacting a halogenated dihydroxy compound with a halogenated diglycidyl ether compound by heating in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: A halogenated dihydroxy compound is reacted with a halogenated diglycidyl ether compound by heating in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst. After the reaction, the reaction solution is treated with an ion exchange resin to remove the catalyst and the solvent is removed from the product. The remaining product is dried to obtain the purpose flame retardant of an MW ≥10,000. Said halogenated dihydroxy compound is represented by formula I (wherein X is a halogen atom, p and q are each 1-4, and R 1 is a 1-4C alkylidene, an alkylene or -SO 2 -), and is exemplified by tetra bromobisphenol A. Said halogenated diglycidyl ether compound is represented by formula II (wherein Y is a halogen atom, r and s are each 1-4, n is 0-15, and R 2 is a 1-4C alkylidene or the like), and is exemplified by tetra bromobisphenol A diglycidyl ether. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio |
