abstract PURPOSE: To obtain hard-to-break paper of improved appearance, by ultrasonic irradiation on a pulp steamed with a liquid chemical followed by washing the resultant pulp to ensure the degradation of lipids contained in a short time. n CONSTITUTION: A pulp steamed with a liquid chemical (e.g., a mixture of calcium bisulfite solution with sulfurous acid in the case of sulfite pulp, whereas a mixture of sodium hydroxide, sodium sulfide, a small amount of sodium carbonate and sodium sulfate etc. in the case of kraft pulp) is irradiated with ultrasonic waves (e.g., with 10W600kHz) followed by washing the resultant pulp. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
