titleOfInvention | Plastic scintillator and its preparation |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the title scintillator which is reliable even when used in a vacuum and has a high luminous efficiency, by the substitution of a polycyclic group for the phenyl group of a polymer having this group as its side chain to form a polymer having fluorescent molecules chemically bonded thereto. n CONSTITUTION: A polymer having a phenyl group as its side chain (e.g., polystyrene) is subjected to halogenation (e.g., bromination) of said groups in a solvent (e.g., CCl 4 ) in the presence of a catalyst (e.g., an iron powder). The resulting solution is filtered and dropped into an alcohol (e.g., CH 3 OH) to give a halogenated polymer. This polymer is mixed with a solvent (e.g., diethyl ether) and a catalyst (e.g., nickel diphenylphosphinoethane dichloride), and subjected to coupling reaction with a polycyclic Grignard compound (e.g., biphenylmagnesium bromide) for prescribed treatment, thus giving a scintillator comprising a polymer having repeating structural units of the formula (wherein A is a phenyl group substituted by a polycyclic group, e.g., a terphenyl group, and 0<x≤1). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio |
