titleOfInvention | Purification of 4,4'-dyhydroxytetraphenylmethanes |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain purified title compound having improved purity and resistant to discoloration in air, in high efficiency without causing the lowering of the quality, by using a specific mixture as a solvent in the recrystallization process of the title compound useful as a raw material for a polymer such as polycarbonate. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is obtained by the purification of 4,4'- dihydroxytetraphenylmethanes by recrystallization process using a solvent consisting of a mixture of (A) an aliphatic cyclic ether (e.g., tetrahydrofuran, dioxane or tetrahydropyran) and (B) an aliphatic hydrocarbon (e.g., pentane, hexane or heptane) or an alicyclic hydrocarbon (e.g., cyclohexane or methylcyclohexane). The component B may contain the aliphatic hydrocarbon is combination with the alicyclic hydrocarbon. The mixing ratio of the cyclic ether to the hydrocarbon is preferably 2:1W1:2. The title compound is first dissolved in tetrahydrofuran and then added with cyclohexane to perform the recrystallization. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio |
