titleOfInvention Production of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroisoquinoline
abstract PURPOSE: To easily produce the title compound useful as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals, etc., at a low cost, without using a reaction solvent or particular operation, by using isoquinoline as a raw material and hydrogenating the compound in the presence of an easily handleable palladium catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is produced by hydrogenating isoquinoline having a total sulfur content of ≤100ppm, preferably about 10ppm under a hydrogen pressure of atmospheric pressure W30kg/cm 2 .G, preferably atmospheric pressure W10kg/cm 2 .G at 150W280°C, preferably 180W250°C usually for 0.2W3hr in the presence of a palladium catalyst. A commercially available supported metallic palladium catalyst is used as the palladium catalyst (the supporting amount is 1W10wt.% and the carrier is activated carbon, alumina, etc.). The amount of the catalyst is ≥2wt.%, preferably ≥5wt.% based on isoquinoline used as the raw material. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
