NEW MATERIAL: The compound expressed by formula I [R 1 is 8-20C alkyl having at least one branch; E is -CH 2 -CH 2 - or -CH=CH-; R 2 is 1-4C alkyl, 2-4C hydroxyalkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, alkoxy 2-4C alkyl, H or salt-forming a cation]. n EXAMPLE: Methyl isononyloxycinnamate. n USE: Pharmaceuticals useful as anti-seborrheic agents. The compound is useful, in very low in-use concentration, as sebosuppressive agents in pharmaceutical or cosmetic preparations for topical application. n PROCESS: For example, the compound of the formula is obtained by alkylating methyl p-hydroxycinnamate or methyl p-hydroxyphenylpropionate to react with a halide of formula R 1 -X(X is Cl, Br, etc.], or a sulfate or a sulfonic acid ester derived from the corresponding alcohol. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO |
