titleOfInvention Growth of beet
abstract PURPOSE: To contrive to enlarge weight of individual of beet, especially weight of root to become a raw material of sugar and to increase yield of beet simply and economically, by treating stems and leaves of growing beet with a brassinolide. n CONSTITUTION: Stems and leaves of growing beet are treated with a brassinolide such as brassinolide shown by formula I, optical isomer thereof or a related substance thereof such as homobrassinolide shown by formula II or epibrassinolide shown by formula III so that total weight of beet is enlarged more ≥about 10% or ≥about 20% under preferable conditions by the treatment without lowering saccharide concentration at the root part than a case where no treatment is carried out and weight of the root part is increased more ≥about 10wt.% or ≥about 15% under preferable conditions. Since the brassinolide shows effects with a small amount, in the treatment, advantageously a solution of low concentration having generally 0.01×10 -6 W10ppm, preferably 0.1×10 -6 W5ppm, especially 1×10 -6 W1ppm is used. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
