PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, by converting benzenes used as raw materials into an oxygen-containing compound such as cyclohexanes by a combination of reduction reaction and oxidation reaction, dehydrogenating the oxygen- containing compound to obtain the objective phenols and, at the same time, reusing the by-produced hydrogen in the reduction reaction. n CONSTITUTION: A phenol is produced by (1) partially hydrogenating benzene, (2) separating the obtained reaction mixture into cyclohexene, cyclohexane and benzene, (3) oxidizing or hydrating the separated cyclohexenes to obtain an oxygen-containing compound of cyclohexane (e.g., cyclohexanone, cyclohexenone, cyclohexenol or cyclohexanol) and (4) dehydrogenating the oxygen-containing compound. At the same time, the cyclohexane produced as a by-product of the former process is dehydrogenated into benzene. The hydrogen by-produced by dehydrogenation process is reused in the reduction reaction. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio |
