titleOfInvention Fluorine-containing alkoxyethanes
abstract NEW MATERIAL:Fluorine-containing alkoxyethanes expressed by the formula ROCH2CH2OR' [R is CF3CH2 or (CF3)2CH; R' is CH3, C2H5, CH(CH3)2, CH2CF3 or CH(CF3)2]. EXAMPLE:A compound expressed by the formula CF3CH2OCH2CH2OCH3. USE:Having excellent solubility or heat resistance similar to those of conventional fluorocarbon based solvents with low inflammability and toxicity and especially useful as an electrolytic solvent for lithium cells or batteries substitutive for the above-mentioned solvents, since the destruction of the ozonosphere is not caused. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by the formula ROH is reacted with a compound expressed by the formula HOSO2.C6H4.CH3 to provide a tosylate expressed by the formula ROSO2.C6H4.CH3, which is then reacted with an almost equimolar amount of a compound expressed by the formula R'OCH2CH2 OH [R'' is CH3, C2H5 or (CH3)2CH] to afford the aimed compounds expressed by the formula ROCH2CH2OR''.
