titleOfInvention Recombinant vaccinia virus
abstract PURPOSE:To provide a recombinant vaccinia virus giving a Japanese encephalitis vaccine useful for the prevention of Japanese encephalitis, by using cDNA of a gene coding a structural protein of Japanese encephalitis virus as an active component. CONSTITUTION:A plasmid containing cDNA of a gene coding a structural protein of Japanese encephalitis virus is prepared. The plasmid is transfected to a wild-type vaccinia virus-infected cell by conventional method such as calcium phosphate method to cause homologous recombination in the cell and obtain a recombinant vaccinia virus containing cDNA of a gene coding a structural protein of Japanese encephalitis virus. The obtained recombinant vaccinia virus can be used as a vaccine, i.e. prophylactic inoculation agent for Japanese encephalitis.
