abstract PURPOSE: To industrially and advantageously obtain the titled compound useful as medicines, etc., by cultivating a microorganism of the genus Bacillus having the ability to produce 5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan in a culture medium containing 5-hydroxyindole, etc., without L-tryptophan. n CONSTITUTION: A microorganism [e.g. Bacillus SD-58 (FERM-P No.9601)] having the ability to produce 5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan without any synthase of the 1-tryptophan or precursor thereof in a larger amount than that required is cultivated in a nutrient culture medium containing 5-hydroxyindole or 5- hydroxyanthranilic acid or a salt thereof without L-tryptophan or a precursor thereof to collect the resultant product from the culture and afford the aimed compound. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
