titleOfInvention Allylphenol derivative
abstract NEW MATERIAL:An allylphenol derivative expressed by formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each straight-chain or branched 1-15C alkyl or alkoxy; l is 0 or 1; ring A is one ring selected from formula II, formula III, formula IV, formula V, formula VI, formula VII, etc. EXAMPLE:Trans-4-heptylcyclohexane carboxylic 2-allyl-4-hexyloxyphenylester. USE:Useful as a liquid crystal composition. The above derivative is excellent in compatibility with many liquid crystal compounds such as ester type or Schiff base type and suitable for super twist nematic type display element. Further since the derivative exhibits liquid crystal phase up to high temperature over the wide temperature range, the N-1 point can be raised. PREPARATION:An 4-allyloxyphenyl ether derivative is boiled in diethylaniline while refluxing and the resultant compound is reacted with a carboxylic acid chloride corresponding to the aimed product in the presence of pyridine to provide the compound expressed by formula I.
