titleOfInvention Production of optically active cyclopentenones
abstract PURPOSE: To industrially advantageously obtain the titled compounds to be used for drug intermediates etc., by reaction between hydroxycyclopentenones and lower aliphatic carboxylic acids to perform acylation and rearrangement simultaneously followed by making an esterase act on the system to effect asymmetric hydrolysis. n CONSTITUTION: A hydroxycyclopentenone of formula I (R is H or lower alkyl; n is integer of 4W8) [e.g. 3-hydroxy-2-(6-methoxycarbonylhexyl)-4-cyclopentenone] is allowed to react with a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid (e.g. acetic acid), its anhydride and its metal salt to perform acylation and rearrangement simultaneously to produce a dl-cyclopentenone ester of formula II [R' is (halogen- substituted) lower alkyl]. Thence, an esterase is made to act on this ester to effect asymmetric hydrolysis, thus obtaining the objective optically active cyclopentenones of formula III. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
