abstract | [PROBLEMS] To present a transition of the amount of water contained in a plant in a quantitative and time series, and to contribute to early teaching of the state of water stress applied to a plant and whether or not it is partially necrotic. A quantity observation device, a water content observation method, and a cultivation device are provided. A first projection light source irradiates a plant leaf with 905 nm near-infrared light having a characteristic that is hardly absorbed by moisture as reference light. The second projection light source irradiates a plant leaf with 1550 nm near-infrared light having a characteristic of being easily absorbed by moisture as measurement light. The threshold setting / moisture index detection processing unit calculates the moisture index of one leaf, which is the sum ΣLn (I 905 / I 1550 ) of the reflection intensity ratio. The control unit displays, on the UI screen of the monitor, a graph representing the sum of the water content of the leaves and the pixel average value as a time-series transition of the water content contained in the leaves of the plant from the start of the measurement period. A white background plate that covers the back of the leaf of the plant as viewed from the first projection light source and the second projection light source is disposed on the leaf of the plant.
