abstract | [PROBLEMS] To provide a water-absorbent resin used in sanitary materials, a method for producing a water-absorbent resin capable of obtaining a water-absorbent resin having an appropriate BET specific surface area and water absorption speed, and the water-absorbent resin and the water-absorbing resin. A water absorbent and an absorbent article are provided. In the method for producing a water-absorbent resin according to the present invention, a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer is contained in a hydrocarbon dispersion medium in the presence of at least an azo compound, a peroxide, and an internal crosslinking agent. In carrying out two or more stages of reversed-phase suspension polymerization, the amount of the internal crosslinking agent used in the first stage polymerization is 0.000 per mole of the water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer used in the first stage polymerization. By carrying out the polymerization while adjusting in the range of 015 to 0.150 mmol, the BET specific surface area of the secondary particles formed by aggregation of the primary particles obtained is controlled.
