abstract | A method and apparatus for applying compressive pressure to a fabric when forming a fabric preform is disclosed. At one end of the fabric, it is attached to a mold having a central axis (DD). The mold with the applied fabric is at least partially surrounded by the film. The film extends along the film path to the mold to the periphery of at least a portion of the mold. The fabric and film are pumped over the mold and the film is fed around the mold while the fabric is wrapped around the mold to form a fabric preform. A vacuum is drawn to expel the gas between the mold and the film, thereby pressing the film on the fabric and applying compressive pressure to the fabric. [Selection] Figure 15 |
