titleOfInvention | Liquid crystal composition and ferroelectric liquid crystal composition |
abstract | <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition useful as a base liquid crystal of a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition which has a low melting point and achieves high-speed response, and a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition which has a low melting point and achieves high-speed response. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises a compound having a branched side chain represented by general formula (I) and a compound having a terminal ring represented by general formula (II), wherein R<SP>11</SP>, R<SP>12</SP>, R<SP>21</SP>and R<SP>22</SP>each represents an alkyl group or the like; a, b and c are each an integer of 1-2; rings A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP>, B<SP>2</SP>and C<SP>2</SP>each represents a phenylene group or a cyclohexylene group; and L<SP>21</SP>and L<SP>22</SP>each represents a linking group such as a single bond. Since the liquid crystal composition and the ferroelectric liquid crystal composition have a low melting point, crystal deposition can be effectively prevented during low-temperature preservation and the ferroelectric liquid crystal composition is very useful as a component of a ferroelectric liquid crystal display. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
