abstract <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new antifouling or antimicrobial agent which considers environments and brings an excellent antifouling or antimicrobial effect; to provide an antifouling or antimicrobial coating material; and to provide an antifouling or antimicrobial treatment method. <P>SOLUTION: This antifouling or antimicrobial agent is characterized by being selected from the following A to C: (A) a water-insoluble cross-linked product of the salt of an anti-fouling or antimicrobial quaternary ammonium cation with a water-insoluble copolymer anion having acidic groups and reactive groups; (B) a water-insoluble cross-linked product of the copolymer of a reactive monomer with the salt of an anti-fouling or antimicrobial quaternary ammonium cation with an acidic group-having monomer anion; and (C) a water-insoluble cross-linked product of the copolymer of a monomer having two or more unsaturated double bond groups with the salt of an anti-fouling or antimicrobial quaternary ammonium cation with an acidic group-having monomer anion. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&amp;INPIT
