abstract <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser and an optical module with a high output, a high SN ratio and a broad wavelength variable region. <P>SOLUTION: The semiconductor laser includes DFB lasers 301a-301j which is able to laser-oscillatable of a single-mode laser at different wavelengths, respectively; first connection waveguides 302a-302j; a first optical merging circuit 303 for merging the laser light oscillated from the DFB lasers 301a-301j and propagated in the first connection wageguides 302a-302j; second connection waveguides 308a-308b; a second optical merging circuit 306 for merging laser light propagated in the second connection waveguides 308a-308b with each other; and one output waveguide 307 for outputting the laser light merged at the second optical merging circuit 306.
