abstract <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine oil composition of long life and excellent in reducing sediment formed in the inside of an engine combustion chamber. <P>SOLUTION: The engine oil composition contains a 0.2-0.8 mass% calcium-based cleaner in term of calcium and a 0.02-0.2 mass% zinc dialkyldithiophosphate represented by formula (1) and having an 8-12C primary alkyl group, and the calcium-based cleaner contains both calcium salicylate whose base value measured by perchloric acid method is not less than 50 mg KOH/g and calcium phenate whose base value measured by the same method is not less than 150 mg KOH/g in an amount that the blended amount of calcium salicylate is 50-90% in term of the base value, and an initial sulfuric acid neutralization velocity is not more than 1.0 kPa in term of gas generation pressure, wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, and R<SP>4</SP>are each a 4-12C primary alkyl group, and at least one thereof is an 8-12 primary alkyl group, and each thereof may be the same or different. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&amp;INPIT
