abstract | <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting mtSNPs, which classifies Japanese mtDNAs into main haplogroups and a method for detecting a gene, with which genetic degrees of risks of various diseases are estimated by using the method. <P>SOLUTION: The method for classifying Japanese mitochondrial genomes into 10-12 typical haplogroups comprises determining genotypes related to twenty and several polymorphisms in a code region of mitochondrial genome.
