titleOfInvention Organic crystal material and birefringence control method by molecular coma in which π-electron system rotates uniaxially in crystal
abstract <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic crystal material that has a fixed composition of substances and yet changes the degree of birefringence depending on a temperature or the like, a novel organic crystal material that allows design of a desired optically characteristic material without changing the thickness thereof and attains an arbitrary birefringence value by continuously changing a molecular movement mode of a partial structure of a molecule inside the organic crystal, and a controlling method of birefringence using the organic crystal material. <P>SOLUTION: The organic crystal material is composed of a crystal of a molecular frame represented by formula (I) and shows continuous changes of birefringence by heat. In the formula, E<SP POS="POST">1</SP>is a group 14 atom such as a silicon atom or the like; A is a bivalent aromatic group such as a phenylene group or the like; and n is an integer of 6-12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&amp;INPIT
