abstract | <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily automatable method for easily hydrolyzing a protein, and to provide a highly versatile method capable of easily analyzing the amino acids of a protein. <P>SOLUTION: The method for hydrolyzing a protein by contacting the protein with a solid acid catalyst in the presence of water and under heating is provided. An apparatus for hydrolyzing a protein is also provided, comprising at least one hydrolysis means selected from the group consisting of a vessel, column and membrane each containing the solid acid catalyst.
