abstract | <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which penicillin-resistant group B streptococcus can simply be identified, and to provide a kit therefor. <P>SOLUTION: This method for identifying the penicillin-resistant group B streptococcus comprises scattering oxacillin, ceftizoxime or ceftibuten (medicine) on the surface of a solid culture medium coated with a bacterium of detection target, culturing the solid culture medium, and then comparing the sizes of inhibition circles formed on the peripheries of the medicine with a standard value to identify whether the bacterium of the detection target is the penicillin-resistant group B streptococcus or not. The kit for identifying the penicillin-resistant group B streptococcus is characterized by disposing oxacillin, ceftizoxime and ceftibuten (medicine) on a strip-like substrate at a distance. The method for identifying the penicillin-resistant group B streptococcus comprises preparing a plurality of liquid culture media containing oxacillin, ceftizoxime or ceftibuten in stepwisely diluted concentrations, inoculating a bacterium of detection target into the liquid culture media, culturing the bacterium in the culture media, and then identifying whether the bacterium of the detection target is the penicillin-resistant group B streptococcus or not, from the presence or absence and/or the extent of the decrease in the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
