abstract | <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lignophenol-based adsorbent and a method for treating an organic matter using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The lignophenol-based adsorbent is comprised of a lignophenol 2 or its derivative as its major component and adsorbs an organic matter. The adsorbent may be one of the chemical modifications of a lignophenol obtained by acetylating, acylating, hydroxymethylating, trimethylsilylating, epoxidizing, methylcarboxylating, or carbonating a lignophenol, or a second-order or high-order lignophenol with phenols introduced. The adsorbent may be a composite constituted of a lignophenol or its derivative and a polymer.
