To obtain a molding material for extrusion foam molding capable of obtaining a high quality wood foam molded article, and to efficiently produce a high quality wood foam molded article free from defects. SOLUTION: A constituent material containing wood powder and a thermoplastic resin as main components and containing 1 to 5 wt% of alkane having a molecular weight of 300 to 1000 g / mol is melt-kneaded until each constituent component is uniformly dispersed. Thereafter, a molding material formed as pellets granulated to a predetermined particle size is obtained. Next, this molding material is extruded into a predetermined shape together with a foaming agent by an extrusion molding apparatus to obtain a wood foam molding. At the time of extrusion molding, the molding dough 25a extruded from the extruder 12 is introduced into the molding chamber 31 of the molding die 30 while maintaining a pressurized state, and the molding dough 30 is introduced when the molding die 30 is introduced into the molding chamber 31.
