abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device capable of suppressing fluctuations in image density even in a discontinuous printing mode provided with a pause time. The developing device includes a developer that develops an electrostatic latent image formed on a photosensitive drum, a developer carrier that carries and conveys the developer, and a carrier that is carried and conveyed by the developer carrier. In order to regulate the amount of the developer, at least developer layer thickness regulating means arranged close to the developer carrying member is provided. As the developer, a negatively chargeable one-component magnetic toner having magnetic toner particles containing at least a binder resin and magnetic iron oxide particles and having a specific saturation magnetization, a weight average particle diameter and a composition is used. As the developer carrier, a developer carrier having a surface layer containing a binder resin, a quaternary ammonium salt, graphitized particles, and conductive spherical resin particles, and having a specific surface shape.
