titleOfInvention | Methods for stimulating myocardial activity during the refractory period |
abstract | A device for improving contraction of the heart during a cardiac function cycle (heartbeat) of a patient is provided. A device for improving contraction of the heart during a cardiac function cycle (heartbeat) of a patient, the device including at least a sensor, a timer, and a stimulator. The sensor detects a local electrical event (depolarization) during the cardiac function cycle and uses the local electrical event to trigger a stimulation interval Δt at time t 0 . What is important is that the stimulation interval Δt is set to end at time t 1 during the absolute refractory period of the cardiac function cycle. At time t 1, stimulator is triggered to stimulate local sympathetic on epicardial surface of the heart. This stimulation causes the sympathetic nerves to secrete norepinephrine and improve subsequent heart contractions. [Selection diagram] FIG. |
