| abstract | PURPOSE:To obtain desulfurized fats and oils or a fatty acid ester for producing a high-purity high-quality alcohol in high yield by catalytically reducing fats and oils or a fatty acid ester in the presence of a specific copper-based ester reducing catalyst under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:Fats and oils or a fatty acid ester is brought into contact with an ester reducing catalyst shown by the formula Cu.Xx.Yy.Oz (X is Fe, Zn or Cr; Y is Al, Si or Ti; (x) and (y) are atomic ratios of each element when Cu is regarded as 1, x=0.22-2.4; y=0-2.0; (z) is atomic ratio of 0 satisfying requirement for valencies of X and Y), and catalytically reduced in an atmosphere of hydrogen and/or an inert gas under 0.1-20kg/cm<2> (absolute pressure) at 100-350 deg.C to give the objective desulfurized fats and oils or desufurized fatty acid ester. |
