The nutritional composition comprises fucosylated and/or sialylated human milk oligosaccharides, non-digestible fermentable polysaccharides, and bacteria of the genus Bifidobacterium. The nutritional composition is free of short chain fructooligosaccharides containing at least about 50% molecules with a degree of polymerization of less than about 5. A method of treating a subject at risk of developing a Clostridium difficile infection or having a Clostridium difficile infection comprises administering a nutritional composition as described above.
