titleOfInvention Systems and Methods for Determining Light Attenuation of Optical Members Inserted into Tissue
abstract Systems and methods are provided for determining or estimating the presence and effect of light-attenuating inhomogeneities in tissue when performing medical procedures or diagnoses using optics within the tissue. The system and method make measurements by inserting multiple optics into a tissue and then emitting light through one subset of the optics at a time, while the light collected by another subset of the optics. Includes measuring. The system and method also includes combining the above measurement data with a model for light propagation within a tissue and setting up simultaneous equations. The system and method also include solving unknown attenuation values from the above simultaneous equations.
