Cavitating the treated material provides methods and systems for decoagulation and deagglomeration of micromaterials such as carbon nanotubes. The processing substance can be a substance such as CO 2 capable of causing a phase change. The system must be able to withstand high pressures and cavitation can be done by ultrasonic waves, mechanical agitation, jet stream injection, or other methods. Materials treated by the methods of the invention can be removed without the use of chemical surfactants or other chemical modifying means, and can also be used in batteries.
