Kind Code: A1 A method for determining or selecting a rice plant having a low-amylose trait, comprising the step of detecting whether or not a target rice plant has a gene encoding a mutant SART-1 protein, -1 protein is: (a) an insertion mutation that increases the number of EK repeats by one in the 4-repeat sequence of glutamic acid and lysine (EK) at positions 56 to 63 of the wild-type SART-1 protein, ( b) a mutation in which the methionine at position 586 of the wild-type SART-1 protein is replaced with an amino acid selected from threonine, asparagine, cysteine, glutamine, serine and tyrosine, and (c) a mutation at position 745 of the wild-type SART-1 protein A method comprising a mutation selected from the group consisting of mutations in which serine is substituted with an amino acid selected from cysteine, asparagine, glutamine, threonine and tyrosine.
