A subject is malignant, comprising detecting at least one of insulin-like growth factor 2-mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) and paradine in a specimen taken from a subject's neural tumor lesion. A method for assessing the likelihood of having a peripheral nerve sheath tumor. A test kit for use in the diagnosis of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor containing at least one of a specific antibody against IGF2BP2 and a specific antibody against paradin.
