titleOfInvention | Medical delivery device with suppressed oxygen permeability |
abstract | The present disclosure relates to medical devices such as syringes, automatic injectors and pens that suppress the permeation of oxygen into the fluid chamber. Medical devices include lubricant (eg, silicone) -free or siliconized barrels, elastomer stoppers and plunger rods that have an inner surface that defines the fluid chamber. In one embodiment, at least a portion of the inner surface of the barrel is reduced to increase the tight fit between the stopper and the barrel. In another embodiment, the stopper comprises a plurality of ribs, and the valley between each pair of ribs can include a ring member provided for each of the valleys. The ring member comprises an oxygen-absorbing material, an oxygen-adsorbing material, or both, and binds to any oxygen permeating into the syringe, automatic injector or pen. In yet another embodiment, the stopper can include a barrier coating that includes an oxygen barrier material to suppress or prevent oxygen permeation. |
