The present disclosure relates to naturally produced polymer-based coatings that have anti-adhesion properties (to repel or prevent the adhesion of bacteria or platelets). The widely characterized polymer is produced by the marine bacterium Cyanoseis species CCY 0110 under production conditions optimized to increase the amount of polymer. Importantly, this strain is one of the most efficient polymer-producing strains, which secretes the polymer directly into the medium, allowing the polymer to be easily recovered with a few purification steps, which is cost effective. It is a high-quality product. Coating agents can be applied to medical devices or medical implants to prevent their biofilm-borne infections. |
