abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an unsaturated aldehyde such as acrolein or methacrolein and an unsaturated carboxylic acid such as acrylic acid or methacrolein from an olefin such as propylene or tertiary butanol as a catalyst used in a vapor phase catalytic oxidation reaction. An object of the present invention is to provide a catalyst having a high conversion rate and product selectivity and improved mechanical strength. A method for producing a catalyst for synthesizing unsaturated aldehydes and unsaturated carboxylic acids. A liquid preparation step in which the source compound of each catalyst component element is integrated and heated in an aqueous system to prepare a liquid, a drying step in which the prepared liquid is dried to obtain a powder, and a catalyst precursor obtained by molding the powder. Including a molding step of forming a body and a firing step of calcining the catalyst precursor and using it as a catalyst. A method for producing a catalyst in which 0.1 part by weight or more and 1.0 part by weight or less of a fatty acid metal salt having 15 to 20 carbon atoms is added to 100 parts by weight of the powder before molding in the molding step.
