abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for accurately measuring the remaining amount of toner in a process cartridge. SOLUTION: A photosensitizing unit having an image carrier, a developing agent carrier, a developing unit having a container capable of accommodating a developing agent, and a rotating shaft for rotatably coupling the developing unit to the photosensitive unit. The developing unit is provided with a detection unit that detects a change amount or an amount according to the amount of the developing agent contained in the developing unit, and the developing unit rotates about a rotation axis to carry a developing agent. The developing position for supplying the developer to the image carrier and the distance position where the developer carrier is separated from the image carrier are taken, and the detection unit rotates the developing unit when the developing unit is in the separated position. An image forming unit is used in which the movement is regulated and the force from the developing unit is received, and the distance between the center of gravity of the developing unit and the rotation axis is larger as the remaining amount of toner is smaller.
