abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyarylene sulfide capable of efficiently providing PAS in which a large amount of reactive functional groups are introduced in a molecular chain. SOLUTION: A reaction (b) represented by the following formula (A) with (a) a polyarylene sulfide having a number average molecular weight of 6000 or more and 50,000 or less with 1 mol of an arylene sulfide structural unit in the polyarylene sulfide. (C) A method for producing a polyarylene sulfide, which is heated in the presence of 0.1 mol% or more and 25 mol% or less of a sulfide compound having a sex functional group. In the formula, at least one of Y and X is a functional group selected from an amino group, a carboxyl group, a hydroxyl group, an acid anhydride group, an isocyanate group, an epoxy group, a silanol group and an alkoxysilane group, and n is 0 to 20.
