PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a personal handheld monitor (PHHM) including a signal acquisition device for acquiring a signal for deriving a parameter measurement value related to health. A signal acquisition device comprising a light emitter, a photodetector 32 and a blood light sensor having two or more optical cells, wherein at least one of the optical cells contains a sample or mimics an absorption spectrum. Light transmitted or scattered through parts of the human body passes through the optical cell before reaching the photodetector, and the processor processes the photodetector signal, allowing light to pass through the sample cell and light to pass through the non-sample cell. The pulse is identified from the difference in intensity with and, and the signal of the optical sensor is correlated with the pulse. Pressure is applied to the human body site so that the artery changes from occlusion to open during each pulse, or PHHM is pressured by the human body site, and the processor derives a measurement of the change in the lumen area of the artery during each pulse. Moreover, the signal of the optical sensor is correlated with the change in the pulse and the lumen area of the artery to provide a measured value of the concentration of the sample in the arterial blood.
