abstract The present invention relates to a method for increasing the magnesium ion concentration of water supply. In this method, a step of providing an inlet flow (QIN) of water supply, a step of increasing the concentration of carbon dioxide in the inlet flow QIN to obtain a carbon dioxide-containing water supply flow (QCO2), and a step of converting the water supply flow QCO2 into magnesium. It comprises passing through a solid bed containing an ion source to obtain an outlet stream (QOUT) of treated water with an increased concentration of magnesium ions. The present invention further relates to water treatment systems and corresponding flow reactors that increase the magnesium ion concentration in the feed water.
